Yaara Sumeruk directs commercials, fiction, and nonfiction films making the invisible visible, whether it's historically underrepresented communities, body language, or women as protagonists. Her films have been screened at The Locarno International Film, Encounters International Documentary Festival, Camden International Film Festival, First Look at The Museum of the Moving Image, and many others. She has directed commercials for Puma, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CDPHP, Garden of Life, Eastern Bank, Converse, Google, Penguin Books, USPS, Rado Watches, and has edited trailers for director Spike Lee and many independent films. Before becoming an independent filmmaker, she worked as story editor to screenwriter Justin Haythe (The Lone Ranger, Red Sparrow). Yaara is a MacDowell Fellow, School of Making Thinking Resident and has taught film at Princeton University, The Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, and The New School. She is the 2021/2022 Artist Lead for The UnionDocs CoLAB Fellowship and is a recipient of the NYC Artist Corp Grant and the New York State Council for the Arts Artist Grant.
